LIBERAL AND LABOR FEDERATION.

Press Association. Electric Telegraph Copyright. Wellington, July 12. The conference of delegates from branches of the Liberal and Labor Federation opened yesterday. About 120 delegates were present, representing nearly every part of the Colony. The proceedings are private, the press representatives, on seeking admission, being informed that their presence was not1 desired.

The Premier, who i 3 President of the Federation, gave an address during the afternoon, in which he declared that the brarohes of the organisation should keep in touch with one another and with the Executive of the day. Defects had been found to exist in the constitution of the Federation, ard it would be r ecessary to remedy these in order to facilitate the carrying on of the affairs of the organisation. A discordant note had recently been sounded by the allegation that the interests of the towns were in conflict with tho«e of the country districts. This cry had been raised with the object of dismeru bering the Liberal Party. It should be shown by the Federation that the interests of the town and country were identical. Mr Seddon reported that the Federation was in a fair financial position.
