Accordingly, it was decided to hold over the matter of securing a permanent abode till the end of that time; and a sub committee was empowered to make arrangements for the use of temporary quarters and report to the meeting on . Monday night. In discussion it appeared that the objects of the institution were of a social nature, the aim being to set up a Club with rooms containing the means of intercourse and recreation. Billiard tables, card tables, books, and dramatic, musical, and other institutions were mentioned.
Draft rules were adopted, aud the framing of by laws was left to the Committee. Th.9 entrance fee was fixed at ss, and the annual subscription at 265, or £1 Is if paid within a certain time. A strong membership was assured.
A vote as to the name of the new institution decided in favor of " The Wairau Club," a proposal that it be called "The Wairau Young Men's Club" being defeated.
