Major Sheweli sued Lord Kintore and other directors of the London Riverside Cold Storage Company, claiming damages for misrepresentation in the prospectus. Tho case was settled, defendants taking plaintiffs shares to lessen his losse3.
Mr Justice Grantham regretted that gentlemen lent honoured names to people carrying on an almost unwholesome and sometimes unholy trade in company promotion.
Lord Kintore said that from the first he had endeavoured to remedy plaintiff's wrong, and defendants had shown themselves not guilty of dishonesty. He believed there was every prospect of the formation of an honest company. A man named Lyons, promoter, was the real villain.
