Mr Felix McGuire, who for many years represented Egmont and Hawera in the House of Representatives, was presented by his supporters with an illuminated address,* silver salver, and tea and coffee service. The gathering was a representative one, settlers being present from all parts of the district. The Mayor, in making the presentation, spoke flatteringly of Mr McGuire's services. In replying Mr McGuire criticised the land and loan policy of the Government.
