Melbourne, April 16.
Dr J. W. Gregory, Pro'ossor of Geology at . Melbourne University, disparages Mr Russell's cycle theory in regard to the seasons. He says that the scientists at Greenwich Observatory made a special study of records oxtendiag over a century, and found, after an exhaustive analysis, that no connection whatever could be estab lished between the changes of the moon and climatic conditions as far as the Northern Hemisphere is concerned.
At the same time, the Professor declares that it has been established practically beyond doubt chat there are weather cycles in the Northern Hemisphere extending over a period of thirty-three to thirty-six years.
While it is very probable that the cycle theory is not confined to the Northern Hemisphere, the Professor thinks it would te very unprofitable to seek in changes of the tuoon an ex planation of the wet and dry spells in Australia.
