WAIRAU REGATTA.
The regatta, bold on the Wai ran River at Spring Creek yesterday provided recreation for a goodly number oj people, though the attendance suffered considerably on account of the strong counter-attraction at the Volunteer encampment. In the rowing events the competition was of a dual nature between the Wellington Stars and the Blenheim Rowing Club, the entries being conQued to these two clubs. The official* worked hard to make the occasion pleasurable. Mr S. Tapp was judge; Mr E. McArtney umpire ; Mr F. ) edwood starter; and Mr A. J. Maclaine Secretary. A good lunch was provided in the Ferry Hotel by Mr J. Barr. The Church refreshment rooms had many patrons. Following are the results : — Maidan Fours. — First prize, £6; second, £1 10a.
