THE SHOOTING FOR GOVERNMENT MONEY.

.i* TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I hear on good authority that "the Committee dealing with the above have decided to hold the shooting on Saturday week. Now, Sir, last year it was held on a Wednesday, and over one hundred competitors took part in the match. Surely the Committee should be satisfied with Wednesday. I understand that any civilian can shoot, and it seems to me the clubs and volunteers are looking after themselves. What about the hands in town who cannot possibly get away on a Saturday; also other tradesmen who like to take part ? The rifle clubs and volunteers shoot all through the season. Surely they can lay themselves open to give the civilian a show once a year. Besides, Wednesday is a half-holiday in town, releasing a lot who, if held on a Saturday, would be unable to attend. I certainly think that day should be adhered to. Of course, if the volunteers and rifle clubs want all the " dibs" civilians and all will leb it be Saturday. lam sure the attendance will be the greater if held on the Wednesday.—l am, etc., Give Us a Show.
