THE FARMERS' UNION.

The first general meeting of the Pelorus branch of this Union was held at Manaroa on Saturday last. Notwithstanding the boisterous state of weather, which rendered boating almost an impossibility, there was a large attendance of members from all parts of the Kenepuru and Pelorus Sounds. Mr H. P. Wynn-Williams was elected chairman and Mr H. H. Campbell Secretary of the branch. A report was read by the former setting forth what had been done in connection with its formation, and after the transaction of formal business the meeting discussed various matters, priucipally of local interest. A resolution was passed urging the Government to complete the telephonic communication in the Sounds, the want of which has long been seriously felt by the settlers, and it was intimated that the Government had now sanctioned the erection of a wharf in Waitaria Bay at a point which gave satisfaction to all present. In addition to the members of the branch, there were present several gentlemen from Blenheim and Picton, and they, as well as the other visitors from a distance, were kindly entertained at luncheon by Mrs Masefield and Mrs Wynn Williams.

The meeting was characterised by an entire absence of any political bias and altogether a very enjoyable day was spent. The membership of the branch now exceeds 80.
