LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

The Council met at 11 a.m.

In committee on the Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Bill a new clause was added providing that when land fronts a road or a street of less width than sixty-six feet the frontage owner shall set back the frontage to a distance of at least 33 feet from the centre of the line of the street. The Bill passed all stages. The Public Health Bill was taken in committee and progr33S reported. The Native and Maori Land Laws Bill passed all stages without amendment.

The Workers Compensation for Accidents Amendment, Waihi Hospital District, and Towns Main Streets Bill passed the second reading. The Council adjourned at 1 p.m.

AFTERNOON SITTING.

In the afternoon the Public Health Bill and Worker's Compensation for Accidents Bill passed the final stages.

EVENING SITTING.

The Legislative Council met tonight and passed the Appropriation Bill, and then finally adjourned.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

The House spent the afternoon in a general discussion oh the appropriation Bill, several members taking the opportunity of entering a final protest on various subjects.

EVENING SITTING The House resumed at 7.30 p.m. THE APPROPRIATION BILL.

In replying on the motion for the third reading of the Appropriation Bill

Sir J. WARD said that the revenue in all the Public Departments continued buoyant, and there was no justification for the gloomy forebodings of the Opposition. The Customs revenue for September showed an increase of £22,000 as compared with the corresponding month last year. The Bill passed the final stages, and at IQ'5 it was announced that the Bill had received the Governor's assent.

THE LAST WORDS.

Sir J. WARD, on behalf of the members, paid a tribute to Sir M. O'Rorke for the impartial way in which he had carried out the duties of Speaker; and Sir M. O'Rorke, in acknowledging the compliment,- remarked that he had never seen the business go more smoothly than in the session just closed.

Sir J. WARD also, on behalf of the members, wished every success and prosperity to the retiring members Messrs Hutcheson, Pirani, and Camcross.
