Last evening R. E. Mcßae, a wellknown sporting man, and for many years prominent in local politics, was entertained at a smoke concert and presented with a purse of sovereigns and gold badge of Jife membership of the Egtnont Racing Club, of which he has been a steward since the club's inception. Me Mcßae did much to improve blood and draught stock as well as sheep and cattle in this district. He is going to South Africa to settle.

The Borough Council have accepted a tender of £1857 17s 9d for the erection of abattoirs.

A movement is afoot to erect a memorial to Trooper Goodland and other South Taranaki men who lost their lives in South Africa.
