LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

The Council met at 2.30. The Hon. Mr RIGG moved that the Government be requested to take into consideration the administration of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act by the Court of Arbitration. The debate was adjourned. A large number of local Bills were put through the final stages.

EVENING SITTING. Tho Council resumed at 8 p.m. After three hours debate the motion for the committal of the Hon Mr Riggs' Tied Houses Bill was negatived by 17 to 5.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Tho House met at 2.30. BILLS ABANDONED. On the motion of Sir J. WARD, a number of Bills were struck oft' the Order Paper, including the following : —Land for Settlements Act Amendment, Crown Tenants Rent Rebate, Orchard and Garden Pests, Young Persons Protection, Tenants Rights, Shops and Offices, and Absolute Majority Vote Bills. THE CORONATTON CONTINGENT. The Public Accounts Committee re ported that the charging of the £3000 in respect of the Coronation Contingent was in accordance with the practice followed by the Treasury for years. Mr Jas. ALLEN contended that the sum should have been charged to unauthorised expenditure. He also complained that the House had not been consulted as to the despatch of the Contingent, and said he believed the total cost would reach £10,000, or more. Sir J. WARD said that Parliament was not consulted because^ the invitation was not received until after the close of the session. With regard to the payment, the U3ual course-had been followed.

A Jong debate ensued, lasting until the 5.30 adjournment.
