TO STAND THIS SEASON. THE PURE CLYDESDALE YOUNG MARQUIS. X7-OUNG MARQUIS (249 stud boolr) JL is a beautiful bay horse white markings, was foaled 30th Nov., 1888, and was bred by Robert Gawn, Esq., Deer Park, Taieri, a breeder of Clydesdales second to none in the colony. YOUNG MARQUIS has fire, flat hard bone, plenty of hair of best quality, a prime mover, and is perfectly quiet and good tempered. Sire Marquis of Lome, got by Sir William Wallace, out of Jess by Old Champion (imported). Marquis of Lome took first prize at the Taieri Show in 1880, as a three-year-old—the only Show at which he ever competed. YOUNG MARQUIS' dam, Queen of Quality (608 stud book), got by Lord Salisbury (114 stud book). Dam Jess by Ivanhoe (imported, 113 stud book). YOUNG MARQUIS, as a yearling, was awarded first prize at the New Zealand Exhibition Show in November, 1889, beating a large field. As a two-year-old at Dunedin, again first; and a three-year-old, first in the Taieri and first at Dunedin. When four years old he was awarded first prize at the Marlborough A. and P. Show for the best Draught Stallion, any age; he was also awarded first prize at the Marlborough«A. and P. Show, 1895,1895, and 1898.. Queen of Quality has gained ten First and six Champion Prizes, and among others was Champion Mare at the New Zealand Exhibition Show, 1889, the Champion Mares at the Christchurcb, Timaru and Oamaru Shows competing. Lord Salisbury took eight Firsts and one Champion prize before leaving Scotland as a three year-old. After coming to New Zealand, ten First and nine Champion prizes, being finally debarred from competing, and retiring from the Show Ring with an unbeaten record. LORD RANFURLY is rising 7 years; was foaled November, 1895; and was bred by James Bishop* Esq., Wheatstone, Canterbury. He is a dapple brown, standing 17 hands high, with immense quality of good flat bone, an abundance of superior action, combined with a splendid temper. Lord Cranley'a show ring performances are too numerous .to specify here. .« Fanny, dam of Lord Ransurly, is by that celebrated sire Vanquisher; dam Nell, by Taieri Tom. Fanny's dam, Nell, was bred by Mrs Nimmo, of the Taieri Plains. Fanny had a most successful innings in the,show ring. Vanquisher* the sire of Fanny, is by Young Vanquisher (imp); dam Tibbie, by Prince Royal, who carried ofl several champion prizes at Christchurch; grand dam, Bell 11., by Major (imp); G. G. Belle, winner 16 first and second prizes in Otago and Canterbury, by Blairs Champion (imp), fall brother to Mclntosh's Prince Charlie, G. "G. Duchess, bred by Dr Wiltnore. Van* quisher is sire of that great colt Dr Seddou. Miss Palmer, dam of Lord Cranley and Dr Seddon, is by Lord Salisbury (imp); dam, Duchess 11., 9ire, Sir Colin (imported from Scotland). Lord Salisbury retired from the shew ring an unbeaten horse. Young Vanquisher, bred by Peter Anderson, Stranrear, Scotland, out of his celebrated mare Sally, by Lochfergus; Champion, grand sire. Blair's champion Sally gained first prize at Glasgow, and at Johnstone and Strathrear Exhibitions as best Clydesdale mare exhibited there. Young Vanquisher by Vanquisher, by old Sir William Wallace, by Lothian Tarn. Prince Royal; sire of Tibbie, is by Mclntosh's Prince Charlie, abovementioned . M iss Palmer is winner of 24 first, 10 second, and two champion prizes. Lord Ranfarly was awarded first and championship at the last'Marlborough A. aud P. Show in a large ring of horses. His stock gained two firsts and one second at the sameshowi < His stock now working are. described as splendid specimens of the Clydesdale. Pee, £3 10s; groomage, 5s it first service. The beautiful bred Trotting Sire J. E. ROTCIV. ROTOIV has now become a real favorite with the public. He has a docile temper, is a perfect mover, and his stock has already come to the front, for at the last Marlborough A. & P. Show the only yearling shown claiming him as a sire took all the first and special prizes in his class. Victor, the sire of ItoToiy, is by Young Diomedius, and stands alone today as having achieved the greatest performances ever yet shown in this colony on the trotting track, and has an unbeaten record in the show ring. His stock have won double the money in trottingraces than any other sire, and as show ring horses, cavalry horses, remount and general utility horses he has certainly proved a "Victor." United States, the dam of Rqtoiv, is by Dexter (imp.), dam Jenny I, Rotoiv has proved his worth on the trotting track, and has shown the great speed he possesses. He is as sound as the day he was foaled and should command the attention of breeders. Fee: £3. Groomage: 5s at first service, paddocking as above.
