EXPENDITURE OF PUBLIC MONEY.
TO. THE EDITOR.
Sir,—Kindly allow me space in your valuable columns for the following questions, which I would like answered through the same course:—(l) Has the Lower Wairau River Board advanced £50 to the Renwick settlers for diversion of the Waihopai? (2) Has the Board's Inspector power to oversee the work done by the settlers ? (3) Does the Inspector oversee the work during its progress? (4) If the money was voted to the settlers, why were tenders not invited by the settlers for the execution of the work ? (5) Is the dam, now being erected, in the most advantageous position for relieving Gibson's Creek of the strain in good time? (6) Will a detailed statement of expenditure be placed before the Board for the inspection of the ratepayers. — I am, etc.
A Ratepayer
