ANDREE'S FATE.
(Per 'Frisco Mail Steamer at Auckland.)
San Francisco, July 21.
A despatch from Winnipeg, Manitoba, July sth, says that the Rev. Dr Parleys, a Church of England clergyman, arrived from York, Northwest British territory, to-day. Ho brings authentic information of the fate of the explorer Andree and his companions two years ago. Bight hundred miles north of York, a party of Eskimos', ander tho leadership of "Old Huskie," saw Andree's balloon alight on a plain of snow in that vicinity, which is about two hundred miles north of Cape Churchill.
Three men emerged from the balloon, and &otno of " Huskio's" people approached them out of ctniosit.y. As they did so one of Antlreo's companions Qre« a gun.
This was a signal to tho nneiviJisod natives for battle. It was regarded us a challenge, an:l abt osfc inst-.mtly the natives fell upon tho three explorers and killed them.
Everything pertaining to their outfit was taken to the homes of the natives on the north shore of the Arctic Ocosn. '• Old Huskie " himself gave this information to Ralph Alstiuo, the agent for the Hudson Bay Company, and after being investigated by the Rev. Mr Parleys was told by him to-day. He says that there is little room for doubt, as frequent reports h.ave since come of strange implements which the northern natives have in their possession, telescopes being particularly described.
Had Andree made friends with tho natives he would have been safely conducted south and eventually reached civilisation.
The Hudson Bay Company recently sent another party in search of the balloon and outfit of Andree's and hopes to have conclusive evidence of the fate of the explorers within a few months.
