The Northern Steamship Company are advised that the steamer Kanieri, which went ashore at Waitara some weeks ago, was floated on Saturday night. She sustained very little damage, and comes to Auckland for a general overhaul. Dunedin, June 23. The Licensed Victuallers at a meeting to-day resolved to recommend hotel keepers to close their bars between 9 and 11 on Coronation morning. They desire it to be understood that the decision is not the result of any outside pressure. Wellington, June 23. On the sth inst, two railway platelayers, while working at Petone had an argument about the Boer war, after which one of them was removed to the hospital for treatment. He was suffering from a serious scalp wound inflicted by an iron tool. The result was that Leonard Phillips was to-day committed for trial on a charge of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm to Denis Sullivan.
