SIR A. MILNER INTERVIEWED.

Received June 23,10.15 p.m. London, June 23.

Sir A. Milner informed the South African Chamber of Mines that the new mining tax would yield half a million, which with other revenue from existing sources will balance the local expenditure. He believed that additional taxes were not intended. He hoped that the arrangements in connection with the dynamite duty would save the industry £300,000. There was a prospect of the early reduction of the Customs duties. He added that the people would be consulted on all future measures. Mr Fiddes, Sir A. Milner's Secretary, will remain in England as adviser to Mr Chamberlain on South African affairs.
