At the Supreme Court to-day a native named 7Ja Ao Kati Tohara was found guilty of breaking and entering a store at Wairoa on the 22nd March and was remanded for sentence. ' : A Filipino named Anastosi, alias ' Muiitti Karamea, was acqui feted on a charge of horse-stealing at Poranga- * haHr-His Honor, the Chief Justice, in commenting on the evidence, said it ih ;-tfa^clear that either the accused or one of the witnesses had committed perjury, ; and ifc was the duty of the police to find out which story was the true one. James Swan, charged with the theft of a cheque at Dannevirke in 1899, was found guilty and remanded for sen- :> •-,- '.May 13. The following cases were dealt with in the Supreme Court this morning :— Te Ao Kati Tohara, breaking and entering, twelve months imprisonment; Andrew Jacob, horse-stealing, to come tip for sentence when called upon (prisoner being in an advanced state of consumption) ; James Swan, theft of cheque, to come up for sentence when called upon and to pay £11. Wellington, May 12. Jno. Wright, concerning whom two juries have disagreed, was to«day remanded until next session on the charge of the theft of £145 at Masterton, "
