COLLISION AT LYTTELTON. Mi: Joseph Pago, shipwright in the employ of the LytteltonHarbor Board, hna had a narrow escape from sudden death. Whilst rowing in a skiff in the harbor it came into collision with a tug boat. The impact smashed the skiff to pieces, and Mr Page was seriously hurt in tbe back. Rescued from his perilous position he was convoyed home, and bad io lay ap for nino months, but the shock was so great that his reeves became unstrung, and he grew quite weak and worn out. He could not get about properly, and ultimately became a victim to general debility. AWATERE ROAPToAitD. The monthly meeting of the Awatere Road Board was held on Monday. Present—Messrs S. M. Neville (Chairman), Richmond, Armstrong, Rutherford and Dollar. The following resolutions were passed :—That Messrs Armstrong & Co. bo informed, in reply to their letter, that the following tools may be hired: Road machine 455, plough scoop 12s, and other tools applied for, except wheelbarrows, 5s per \ week; That Messrs Richmond and Armstrong report upon the Richmond Creek bridge referred to by Mr Leslie; That the dangerous point at the Kekerangu cutting be removed at a cost of £5 ; That tenders be called for forming 40 chains from the Blind River gate to Bursill's in accordance with the Inspector's report; That the Richmond Brook ford be repaired immediately ; That tenders b,o called for the. renewal of contracts No. 2, 3 and 4; That tenders be called for next meetiug for a man and 4 horses to work the road machine where directed for three months ; That the Inspector report at next meeting re the cost of opening the road through Flaxbourne along the telegraph line or Postman's track j That the Hon.'O, H, Mills be asked to endeavor tp have placed on the Estimates an amount of £400 for the purpose of completing the forming, metalling and culverting of Blind River roads ; That the Chairman wait on the Land Board with a request that certain sections selected by hjm be reserved for the Board, §||| Tfi|s oomplaint is not 111 l looked upon as an evil 111 l by a great many people, W&sm and very little effort la made to cure it.
