BULLOCK-DRIVING EXTRAORDINARY.

♦ Amongst the tales of hardships endured m the northern portion of South Australia, none can exceed m graphio picturesqueness the description given to a Quiz reporter by Mr W. H. Htitcnins a bullock driver of the good old days. He describes one terrible bullcok dray journey of 23 miles, which occupied nearly a fortnight, During a busy rainy season he did not know the Juxuty of a bed tor tix months, but slept frequently m wet garment*, and it was a common eight, when rising m the morning 1 , to see a man's outline picked out m his clay bed of the previous night. It is not surprising tb.it when Mr Hutchins, now a market gardner, found himself sheltered m a compact little cottage At Daily Road, Paradise, he thought himself the happiest fellow alive. But laßfc Easter he was seized wih shivering fits and ague pains, which later on developed into rheuoaa'ic fever and p'eurisy. He had sharp cutting pains m the chest, shallow end jerky breathing, severe coughing, foyer and exhaustion. Despite medioal attention he progressed slowly : although abb at last to walk he could not work m his garden owing to weakness and dizziness.
