DISAPPEARANCE OF A CAPTAIN. [ONITBD PB*RB AfIBOOIATIOS.I Auckland, Df cumber 12. A few days ago Captain Ole>en, of the barque City of Agra, left the vessel at Auckland, m one of the ship's boats, taking 6*»hiog lines wi'h him; and, afcer fishing near the barque for about 20 minutes, sailed aoross to the opposite shore. Last Monday his boat was discovered on Fitzgerald's Spit, about three miles from the ship, and the Captain has cot been aeen since. A telegram from Auckland- states that there cannot be any doubt he was accidently drowned. He leaves a wife m Poisgrund, Norway, having married three months before his departure on the voyage to New Zealand. His wife was to haye met him m Liverpool on his arrival there. The boat had evidently capsized through t^e main sheet having been made fast. When found the boat was half buried m the sand, and there were no signs of the captain's body. An inquest was held to-day at the hospital on Mrs Kate Madigan, who died at the hospital under circumstances which necessitated an enquiry. After hearing the evidence the jury returned a verdiot to the effeoc that the cause of death was acute blood poisoning, through the absorption into the blood of putrefactive matter caused by the rupture of the uterus, and that the said rupture was due to an illegitimate act pet formed by deceased upon herself for the purpose of procuring abortion. Mr John Oullinace, who attempted to commit suicide by hanging at Hamilton, was committed for trial. H6 had £40 on him when arrested. He received £140 per annum from Home and says the money is a nuisance to him. Wbllington, December 13. At the inquest held at Pahautanui bn the body of the fourteen-year-old lad Frank John Robertson, who accidently shot himself while ortshooting near Judgeford on Sunday with another boy twelve years of age, under circumstances already reported, the evidence showed that thboys had their parents' permission to u*e thfe gun, which was an old muzz'e-loader. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death, with the following rider, " The jury is of opinion that provision should ■■*> made by law that boys under sixteen years of age using firearm - should be subject to fine or inipriionment." Dunedin, December 12. A man named Henry Cowan fell over a faoe at Bannockburn on election day. He was not found till midday on Friday. He was alive then, but died shortly after. A verdiot of " Accidental Death" was returned.
