The Gear Meat Preserving Company" has a balance available for aa appropriation of £3848 7s, which the Directors recommend ahould be apportioned as follows ; —In payment of a dividend on the paid-up capital of the company (of which an interim dividend at the rate of 10 per cent, for the half-year hits already been paid) ; and £4620 to be carried forward to next year's account. The funeral of Mr H. A. Field, late member for Otaki, took place at Otaihanga, near Waikanae, this afternoon. It was largely attended, Amongst those present being the Premier. ' New Plymouth, December 12. The Borough Council decided to take a poll of ratepayers on the proVosal to borrow £60,000, of which £29,000 would be devoted to the repayment of the existing loan, — £21,000 for electric lighting and additional water supply, £8000 for streets, £2000 for paying off the overdraft. The scheme prepared by Messrs 8. H. Metcalfe, and E. Fenn, of Auckland, for waterworks and electric lighting was awarded first premium.
