A JEALOUS RIVAL.
BLA7NBT (N.8.W.), November 11. A young man is alleged to have shot at a young woman named Maude Melville, at Hobby's Yards, on Wednesday night, about ten o'clock. From particulars to hand, it appears that the parties were attending a and after the concert a man "named Brown was seeing Miss Melville home. The first-mentioned individual came up behind and fired, it is alleged, a shot at Melville, but missed; He then, it is stated, fired a second shot, which struck Miss Melville under the left shoulder-, blade. - Dr Griffiths was soon m at-* tendance, and after examining the wound found nothing serious, the flesh only being grazed. Her alleged assailant is supposed to be of weak intellect, and for some time has tried to force his company on the young lady, who always resented his attention. Both parties are well known residents of Hobby's Yards, which is about 12 miles from Blayney. After the second shot was fired, Brown seized and disarmed the young lady's assailant, aud afterwards conveyed him to Newbridge, handing him into Constable Oornaok's custody. Accused was brought before the Bench at Blayney, and on the application of the police was remanded for seven days.
