THE SUPPOSED WRECK AT THE CHATHAMS.

♦ . [OSITHD PBHBB ABBOOUTIOH.] Chbistohuroh, April 21. With reference to the supposed shipwreck at the Chathams, Mr E. Aherne writes to the daily papers stating that Captain Bomeril informed him of a report heard at Waiiangi that a large steamer was seen within a comparatively short distance of the Bay, at any rate within the Western Beefs. She arrived off Waitangi at 8 p.m. and cleared land at 10 p.m. The vessel was fully lit up by electricity. As Captain Someril had been all round the islands prior to returning to Lyttelton, there need be no alarm felt. Islanders mentioned nothing about rookets being discharged, and j the steamer getting away so soon j after arrival oaused them no alarm.
