DINNER TO THE GOVERNOR. [united press association.] "Wellington, February 2. The Yacht Club entertained the Governor at a dinner to-night. Lord Brassey was among the guests. An address was presented to Lord Glasgow expressing regret at his departure and thanking him for his good offices m procuring from the Admiralty for the Club the privilege of flying the blue ensign. Dunedin, February 2. The third season's series of wool sales were held to-day. 5158 bales were offered, of which only a small proportion were withdrawn. Prices for bright light clean halfbred and crossbred were on a par with those realised at the previous sale. Heavy and dingy crossbred and halfbred and heavy conditioned merino sold at par to Jower, and pieces and locks at prices slightly m favor of buyers. At a meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery a resolution was passed requesting the Government to take immediate steps to lay before the Home Government the desirability of preventing the annexation of the the New Hebrides by the French. The furniture Trades' Union are taking steps to enforce by the inter* vention of the Board of Conciliation the signatures to the agreement as to the prices of firms m the trade that so far declined to be bound by its terms.
