EDUCATIONAL PEOPOSALS. [UNITED PEESa ASSOCIATION.] Received February 3, 9.50 a.m. London, February 2. Mr Balfour announced that the Government intended to relieve voluntary school rates by giving a grant of five shillings per child, entailing an expenditure of £615,500 per annum. It has also been proposed to relieve elementary schools by bringing them up to 17s 6d limit per child. Mr Acland, Vice-President of the Council m the last Administration, critioised the proposals, and complained that the grant did not extend to necessitous Board schools. The debate was adjourned.
