LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

The Council met at 2.30. LICENSING BIIX. The Alcoholic Liquors Sale Control Bill was read a first time. THE TARIFF. Sir P. Buckley moved the second reading of the Customs and Excise Duties Bill. The Hon. Mr Reynolds ob]ected to the Bill, which he said was not based on any principle whatever, and appeared to him to be a conglomeration of ill considered ideas. The Hon. Mr Pharazyn felt quite sure that any average man would not consider the new Tariff as either just or expedient, and it would go far to destroy the so-called Liberal party, who were responsible for it. The debate was adjourned and the Council rose till next day.
