Police Changes.— ln oonsequenoe of Inspector Fender's visit to England the North Island will be divided into three instead of four polioe districts. Inßpeotor Thomson will return from New Plymouth to Welling* ton, retaining charge of part of the Taranaki district. Pebhonal.— Mr W. Clark3on, who has resided m Blenheim for some years past, left for his new home at Tauranga to-day. Mr Clarkson will be much missed m Volunteering, Masonic, and other oiroles, and many friends will wish him suocesa m bi3 new ephere. Mrs Clarkson and the family will leave Blenheim for Tauranga, shortly. Fcotdilli.— The following will represent the Wairan Juniors against Benwiok on Saturday : — Fowler, Carey, Chittenden, Morrison, Burton, Wiley, Mills, Ojgood, Leahy, Wanden, MoArtney, Morri3on, Nicholson, L. Redwood, Emergencies, O'Brien, Martin. A match has been arranged ben tween the Havelock Football Club and a town team to be played at Havelook to morrow. The town team leaves by drag for Havelook to-morrow morning. The Recent Social.— The settling up of the last Scotal m aid of the Convent took place last evening and the balance sheet showed the amount taken to be £26, and which was considered remarkably good. The Sisters of the Convent are desirous of thanking all those who by their efforts took part m bringing the social to suoh a Bucceaful ißßue. In all probability the next of these enjoyable events will take place on Wednesday the 26th Tune. The Riveb.— The effaot on the river of the recent alteration at the Bar is beoomiog a serious matter. The two river boats have been penned m by the Bar for the last three days. Only the new ohannel is available, the old one not now being negotiable. The water m the river has been oaused to be unpreoedentedly low, a change wbioh would no doubt have a marked effeot m flood time. The Lower Wairau River Board will hold a special meeting, probably next Wed« nsEday, to consider the matter, and it is hoped that combined aotion will be taken by the Board and the shipping agents m interesting the Marine Department. The Queen's Bibthday. — To-morrow, being the anniversary of the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, who was born on the 21th May, 1819, will be observed as a publio holiday, and there will ba various amusements — pionios, socials. Ao. —m honor of the oooasion. The Hack Meeting on the Renwick oourse is sura to a'tract a large concourse of people; while, should the day prove fine, the looal volunteers will spend an enjoyable day At the Vernon Butts. The football social will be the prominent attraction m town at night, a very large attendance being expected. At Renwick, a dancing assembly at Shaw's Hall, and another at the Oddfellows' Hall, are announced. Volunteers.— The Blenheim Rifle and City Rifle corps are to have a field day tomorrow, and their officers have arranged to make the best use of the time at their disposal, providing Queen's weather prevails. The oompanies assemble at the Drill Shed at 9.30 a.m., with the Band, and march m the direction of the Butts, drilling en route. A maroh-past will take plaoe, but not the customary feu de joie, the Government having iseucd orders that m the Nelson district the royal salute will only be fired by the "H" Battery. After the morning's drill some shooting competitions are to be held at the range, and the midday lunoh partaken of —the commissariat being arranged for at the oompanies' expense, and placed m the charge of Sergt. Breweter. After completion of the firiDg and lunob the afternoon parades will take plaoe, and will ooneist mainly m praotieing the com" panics m extended order, and more particularly m the " attaok formation." The afternoon parade will count as one of ths 11 whole afternoon" parades, three of whioh are now made compulsory by the Government m their new regulations, and absenoa from whioh without a speoial permission entails a fine. The firing whioh takes plaoe at midday is open to all members of eaoh company, the entrance of Is Gd beiDg payable on the range, the seoond and third classes being allowed three and six points respectively, with a speoial class for B.R.V. reornits.
