MR ISITT'S MISSION.

TO THE EDITOR.

giß,— " FOOI3 rn9h ia where angels fear to tread" is an old maxim. Now, the Rev Mr Isitt is no angel, bat he rushes m all the same, and makes assertions that are undoubtedly very strong. The re? gentleman is repoited to have recited an incident he vouched for regarding an ex- Mayor of Cbristchurch, and now brewer, who sold and took money from a crippled child for beer, the tbild wheeling a shaky perambulator, presumably to carry away the aforesaid beer. Thiß fanatical lecturer is evidently so carried away by hatred and malice, that he does not even become acquainted with the law which regulates the quantity of beer leaving any brewery. In the first place, nothing less than* two gallons is allowed to be retailed by the Act, and it is scarcely feasible that a "crippled, thinly clad, poverty-stricken child" could be strong enough to even wheel away m a " shaky wicker perambulator" that same hogshead, which is very heavy. Bat the main feature of this violent attack is the utter falsehood of it all. Let na hope that Mr Isitt ha 3 only been informed of this incident (which, however, he said he vouched for), aa it is one of the greatest libels ever spoken from a public platform on the character of one of the best citizenß Christcburch ever had, and decidedly the most charitable and philanthropic Mayor that city ever possessed. The gentleman m question would no more dream of such a transaction, even if the law allowed, than he would of endeavouring to reason with men of Mr Isitt's stamp, and that is impossible. There is only one way to cope with people who deal m abuse and intolerance, and that is to leave them severely to their own beautiful reflections.— I am, etc, Teeth.
