THR.._New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, under date London, sth September reports :— New Zealand Hemp.— Since our last issue the market has been extremely dull. At the four public sales which have taken place 2990 bales were offered and 1250 bales were sold at and after the auctions with a tendency throughout to easier rates. At the earlier auctions the better qualities sold freely, but medium and inferior sorts were difficult to move off.. On the second inftant however, the catalogues embraced ' about 1350 bales, of which a large proportion was fine well-cleaned fibre, but the demand was bo slow that of the quantity, only, 150. bales found buyers under the hammer. The improvement m the preparation of" much of the fibre now received from New Zealand is very marked, and cannot fail to have a beneficial influence on its position m this market. - Manila has further declined, and fair current -is now" Tvorth £30 5s per ton c.i.f to arrive, and £31 on the spot, c.i.f. -terms.. Sales of sisal have been effected to arrived at £21 per ton, ex quay, Liverpool, but at the close holders are asking more money. Wo quote:— Superior soft, bright hemp, £23 10s to £25 per ton ; good medium, well dressed, f23 to £23 10s; fair to medium.. £2l; 10s;. to £-2 10s;. do. slightly strawy, £20' 10^, to £21; common, coarse and strawy £19, to £20; hackled tow, £16 to £18 ; tow, £6 to £6 10s.
