* ENGLISH ITEMS. JOHN BURNS OPPOSING A STRIKE, FUNITEP PBESS ASSOCIATION.] London, October 14. More carmen are striking, and the excitement is increasing. The officials of the Dockers' Union threaten to take drastic measure?, but the Shipping Federation are confident the strike will not extend further. Mr John Burns considers the present time inopportune for the strike, and characterises the action of those now going out as mad and suicidal. He urges the introduction of the ballot box m connection with strikes. Eight thousand nail workers m England are going out on strike, as a protest against the 10 per cent, reduction m their wages.
