LICENSING AFFAIRS.
$— [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Tisiaru, June 2. A " Prohibition League" was formed here last night, to educate public opinion, m view of the next Licensing Committee election. The Eev. W. Gillies is President. Christchuroh, June 2. At the meeting of the North-east Ward Licensing Committee to-day, renewals with 11 o'clock lioenees were granted all hotels, with the exception of the Foresters' Hotel, consideration of which was adjourned till the 16th, pending a charge of Sunday trading. The Chairman said the police report was favorable, but every care must be taken to keep the houses clear of " spielers" and low characters. It was also announced that the Committee intended to put a stop to Sunday trading. Wellington, Juno 2. At Featherston, the police reported unfavorably of the manner m which all the hotels m the Borough bad been conducted, and the Chairman of the Licensing Committee said that if the houses were not better conducted during the next 12 months they would be closed, if it were within the law. Oauabu, June 3. . All licenses m the Waiareka and Papakaio districts have been granted afresh.
