LARGE FIRE IN NELSON.
t _. ♦ [tJHITBi) PRES3 ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, January 3. A large fire broke out m Hardy Street early this morning m the premises of J. P. Cooke, house decorator, and spread to a cottage - owned by Cooke, Haslem'e Boot Bazaar, and a large two storey building owned by C. W. Moore, and occupied by Clapham, medical herbalist, and the Nelson Co-operative Society. The brigade worked splendidly, and prevented further spread. Over Cooke'e shop was the Young Men's Christian Association hall, anl Good Ternplar3 lodge room. All their furniture, library, and valuable American organs were destroyed. Insurances : Cooke's shop £400, South British, cottage £100 do, Cooke's stool £250 South British, £250 New Zealand, £250 Sun ; V.M.C.A. furniture £10C Boyal; Haslem's furniture £100, stock £200 both m the North German. The buildings were owned by Foy, and insured for £375 m the National. Co-operative (Society's stock £250 Liverpool and London, ifoore's building £300 m the Norwich tinion. The houses on the opposite side oi the road were slightly damaged by the heat. Choke estimates his loss over insurance al #1500 and Moore £600.
