♦ : MAORI GORGE. It will be remembered that the pumpingoufc of this claim was to have been completed yesterday or to-day, but owing to a slight mishap a further delay of 24 hours has occurred. It appears that something went wrong with the Californian pump, and also, through a linch-pin coming out, two or three of the bucket elevators fell into the Gorge ; and this latter circumstance necessitated a delay of four hours. However, the head dr 1 will be finished to-morrow, and if the pumps "work tight the water lower down will bo got out, and within a week the gravel and washdirt will be got at, and operations will then be proceeded with m earnest. WAKAMARINA GOUGE. An adjourned meeting of directors was held last evening at the Masonic Hotel to further consider tenders for rack excavation. All the tenders were m excess of the estimate, and were therefore rejected, i The meeting then decided to offer the lowest formal tenderer the work at a price deemed reasonable by the directors.
