A DERANGEMENT OP THE LIVER THE CAUSE OF DISEASE IN THE STOMACH, KIDNEYS, AND NERVOUS SYSTEM. Below will be found a brief enmmary of a Lecture upon the Liver' delivered; be fore the Eoleafcle College of Medioine. hv DR. J. HAYDOCK. The liver has been known sb the great blood-maker and blood-punfier of th« Circulation. From its eize and spongy atruotnre, it playa a most important part in the animal economy, as regards assimilation and nutrition. Food taken in tho mouth and acted upon by the digestive organs of the stomach is converted into Glacoa e and Peptone, and in these forms enters the Portal vein. Here, by the action of the liver, these substances are converted into a form of Bugar and pass out of the liver by a large vein called the Hepatio vein, into the general circulation. The new material now formed Borvea two purposes, viz : the maintenance of heat In the body and as* eieting in the cell growth of the Byatem. Dr Mnrohißon eayß, |{ The composition of bile and its secretion is very complex. It iB constantly being Becreted by the liver, and, increasing Baddenly before eating, gradually decreases as Boon aa the appetite ia satisfied and feedingceaßes." Now, if thiß most important organ of the body becomes torpid, or the passage of bile interfered with, emaciation and disease ensue. I note eight marked peculiarities that now oocur, and whioh we all know of : — 1. The patient complains of a feeling of weight and fullness of the stomaoh, 2. Distension of the bowela by wind. 3. Heartburn. 4. A feeling of weariness, pains In the limbs and great eleepinefla after meals, o, A bad taste in the mouth, especially in the morning, and furred tongue. 6. Constipation, with an ocoasiona attack of diarrhoea. 7- Head ache in front of head. 5. Depression of spirits and great melanoholy, with lassitude and a disposition to leave everything for to-morrow. All of the above symptoms go to show functional derangement of the liver, and now comes the great importance of any error made aa to the condition of the patient. He should immediately provide himself with a LIVER STIBSIJLANT, the most common form of which is a Pill. Daily experience Bhowß that this, when the Pill ia compound d properly, is the readiest mode of inciting and promoting the action of the Liver, and can ba almost always relied on. I have devoted many yeara of my life, as many of you now before me know, to Compounding a Pill that will act readily and systematically as a Bilious Remedy. Ido not believe in great purgatives, and therefore have made a Pill, one of which is an active and thorough dose. I have called it Dr. Haydocn's;Hew Liser Pill (Sugar Coated.)
