THE GISBORN OIL SPRINGS.

Mr Weaver, Mine Manager of the South Pacific Petroleum Works, reports that the third iund was struck with a 1,140 feet (hill, being 10 feet m advance. This drill bored one foot into the Rand, when a good show of oil w.is found, and the ping was then inserted, according to instructions from Sydney. Upon opening the hole, the plug was found to have been forced up 40 feet to the bottom of the pipe, and some GO or- 70 feet of oil anl sand were forced round the plug into the pipe. A. rammer was placed on the plug, which was driven within ten feet of the bottom. All the llnid was then I filed out, but within an hour the pipe tilled to the same depth again. It was baled out three times with the same result. It is estimated that the present indications arc good for a 20 to 30 barrel well.
