The Foat tonight refers to the subject and saya : — " The report as it stands ia undoubtedly a very severe ope, which, if endorsed by the House, would render Mr Steward's continued presenoe m the Legislature decidedly undesirable. But on the very f*ee of their own report it appears that the Committee has gone too far, or not far enough. Either Mr Steward has acted corruptly, or he has not. The report implies that he haß dope so, but refrains from making a direot charge. Again, it implies that two other members of the Lower House, and one of the Upper HbuseV were m some way m collusion with \lt Steward m his improper coadnctr but. again the charge is not plainly stated. This, we think, ia decidedly unfair to all the parties whoso names are introduced m connection with the affair.'! It was decided at the Opposition meeting yesterday, amongst other matters, that the Representation question Bhould he brought before the House on the : motion of going into Committee of Supply. There is, however, a large number of motions already on the order paper for intercepting "supply," so that the first member who succeeds m "catching the Speaker's eye" will have the privilege of moving his particular motion before any other, member can do so. The Premier received a. deputation of goWfieWs' members this morning, who urged him to bring down another Bill to reduce the doty on gold.
