The General wag four times shown at the Metropolitan Show at Christchurch, and gained a prize on each occasion— first as a yearling, second a3 a two and three year old, and_ as a four year old, and a four year old third m the aged class of stallions. The General'a dam, Rose of Keillar (No 31), imported from Victoria, bred by Ritchie Bros , Cowrie Park, was twice shonn as a yearling, and took first prize on each occasion, only times shown. Rose of Keillar's sire, Baron of Glenlie, imported from Scotland. Rose of Keillar's dam, Nell, imported from Scotland by Mr Browdie. Nell gained 8 first prizes before leaving Scotland. First at Maybole m 18G9, and also Ist at Ayr and Maybole m 1870. She ; waa .the dam of tho illustrious horse known as Drew's Priuce of Wales, considered to 'be the beet stud horse m Scotland ; also Young • Darling, importedto Adelaide by. Messrs Fisher Bros., and the dam of MrHislop's (of Napier) horse Robin Adair, who cost 1000 guineas at Fisher Bros, sale m Adelaide as a 2-year-old. Also. Prince Arthur, who took a great many prizes m ' Scotland, and amongst others, 2nd at the ■ Highland Society's Show at Stirling, m a class of 3G, as a 3-year-old. And was then exported to Melbourne, and was bought at a very high price by Andrew Rowan, Esq., Keyington. Waa considered the best horse m the Keyington District, 25 guineas being charged for his service. Also the Ist prize 2 and 3-year-old fillies at Ayr m 1875, were danghters of Darling. At the Highland Society's Show at Perth, 1871, all the Ist and 2nd prize winners m the 3 classes of Clydesdale fillies either' belonged to, or were bred by Mr James Nicol FlemiDg. Darling being the dam of one of them. General Gordon's dam, Gipsy, was bred by Mr Gilmour, Greenhills, Beath, Scotland. Foaled m 1872. She was exhibited 3 times m 1873, as a 2 year old. Ist at Stranraer, Wigtonahire, among all ages; ht at Dalbetie, Kirkcudbrightshire. Open Show, m a class of eighteen 2 year old fillies. Also same day gained the gold medal for the best female m the yard. The Highland Society's 2nd prize brood mare competing. Gipsy has taken seveial Ist prizes both m Canterbury and. Qtago, also the Champion Prize for the beat female m the yard m 1883, at the largest meeting ever held m Christchurch. Gipsy's dam, Dinah, was 2nd at Ayr as a 2 year old, also 2nd as a dry mare, 2nd at Maryhill, Ist at Shotts, and 2nd at Johnston. The following season Ist at Ayr, Ist at Glasgow, Lit at Maryhill, Ist at Shotts, and ]st at Johnston as a dry mare. As a brood mare Ist at Ayr, and Ist at Glasgow. Dinah's sire, Prince of Wales, the property of J. Foster King, foajed m 1554, a good brown of good substance, and strong bone. Got by Champion, dam a fist class mare got by Mr Reid's, late of Murredge, Greyhorse, so celebrated for the good stock he left/in this country. Gipsy's sire, Prince of Wales, bred by James Nicol Fleming, Esq., Knockdon, Ayrshire, (and no connection with the former Prince of Wales), better known as the Merryton studhorse for which Mr Lawrence Drew gave £1500. The Prince of Wales has pained nioie Ist prizes, m both England and Scotland, than any horse ever showu, and is considered by the most competent judges to be the best horse of the day, and as a proof of such, mares arc sent m to him from all the principal breeders of Great Britain. To show tho high reputation he is still held m, at the death of his late owner he was sold by public auction for 050 guineas, being 10 years old at the time of the sale. The Prince of Wales, when a 3 year old, was exhibited at the Royal Show of England held at Manchester, and took Ist prize m his class, alao carried off the Champion Prize against all ages, and the next week secured tbo laureh At the Highland Society's show held at Edinburgh. Prince Charlie (4). more than half brother of Princo of Wales, was champion horse m Christchurch for 3 years m succession ; aud has left more prize winners than any horso that ever came into this country.
