A CHEAP BRIDGE.

Sir,- —In your article “ Wairau Farmers No. 2,” your contributor tells us that Mr Henry Redwood lias a suspension bridge over Spring Creek constructed of wire cable, and as I am of opinion that Mr Redwood is a man who possesses a pretty good judgment in the matter of sound economy, it has occurred to me that the Borough Council might take a lesson from him and perform an act of justice to a large portion of the ratepayers by putting a foot bridge over the Omaka at a much cheaper rate than they have hitherto professed to believe was practicable. Such a course would not only be an act of justice but by so doing they might secure a valuable site for an additional thoroughfare in the town which is fast slipping from their fingers. A little more delay, and they may lose the substance as they have already lost the shadow with which they sought to blind us—namely ; the land purchased by the Government for railway purposes, and which they tried to make us > believe was sure to be banded over to the Borough school for a playground. I was not deceived ; I simply whispered “bosh” when I heard the story, aud thought what a pity it was that party spirit should blind men’s eyes to the difference between a bird in baud to one in the bush. The bird in the bush has flown, and the other is preparing to take wing. But even now it is not too late to redeem an error, and I believe every one who promised to subscribe to the footbridge over which there has been so much bitter wrangling, would still be true to their word, and pedestrians might be saved much time and shoe leather by a—" Cheap Bridge.
