Dunedin, Nov. 16. The charge of child-stealing haying been amicably settled, the information was with-drawn to-day. In the Police Court this morning a man convicted for drunkenness addressed a note, with a pound note enclosed, to the reporters, to keep his name out of the papers. The money was put m the poor box and the name published Dunedin, Nov. 20. The bricklayers have decided to advance their wages from 14s to 15s a day. It is said that men cannot be obtained here under £1 a day. The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce to-day received a telegram from the Commissioner of Customs that the Collector of Customs has been instructed to allow fencing wire to be landed under deposit entry, and to be cleared by entry as soon as exemption m the new tariff becomes operative.
