To the Burgesses of Blenheim. J ADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— I take JLJ this means of informing you that at the request of a large number of the Ratepayers of Blenheim, and more particularly of the Ratepayers' Reform Association, I have consented to be nominated for the office of Mayor of Blenheim. I have, however, to state that while I shall regard the honor as a very great one, if elected, yet I will not canvass you personally for your votes. Such a course would — it seems to me — be subversive of the first principles of independence and freedom of opinion. I have lived and worked among you for 13 years, ever striving for the good of those aiound me, and especially for the welfare of the locality, therefore I may fairly consider that you are m a position to judge me by my past as to the course I shall pursue m the future. All parts of the Borough will have my continual care, and it is my determination to use my best endeavours to secure certain much-required reforms, and introduce certain improvements which I think are urgently required. I have the honor to be, . Yours faithfully, SAMUEL JOHNSON. Notice to Volunteers. NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
