Resident Magistrate's Court.
Monday, May 31. (Before S. L. Muller, Esq., R.M.) FELL BEOS. V. SA.JJL LAWRENCE. This was a claim of L 7 11s lid, which •was proved by Mr Bushell. Defendant did not appear, and judgment was given for the amount claimed, with 13s costs. KENFKEW V. HEWITT. A claim of L 5 Bs. Defendant did not appear, and judgment was given for the full amount, with 13s costs.
CARRUTHERS V. R. MAX.TED. A claim of L 8 5s due on a dishonored promissory note. No appearance of defendant. Judgment for sum claimed, with 13a costs. NOSWORTHY (CHAIRMAN, BLENHEIM SCHOOL COMMITTEE) V. SILVITJS. The claim was for L 8 Os lOd due for school fees. Since then L 3 16s had been paid on account, and defendant was willing to confess judgment for the balance, but a difficulty arose m his absence, and therefore the case had to be heard by the Bench. Judgment was given for the balance of L 4 4s lOd, with 22s costs. V/AIRAU COTJNTY BOARD V. FABIAN. This was a series of cases which were before the Court about a month ago, and adjourned to give the defendant time to settle them out of Court. He had not done so, nor did he appear on this occasion. They were as follows : — lss road rates, due 21st June, 1873 ; 2s 6d education rate, due June, 1873 ; 12s 6d road rates, due Ist April, 1874 ; 2s 63. education rate, due April, 1874 ; 12s 6d road rates, due December 12, 1874 ; and education rates, due December, 1874. In each road case costs were given at 10s each, and m those for education 13s lid each, the mileage being divided among the Avhole by the direction of the Bench.
The Court then adjourned.
