DODSON v. GRIFFITHS.

Sib,— The new dodge to rid yourself of an opponent appears to have been ably tried by Cr Dodson at the last meeting of the Borough Council by trying to rid himself of an opponent, and the East Ward of a conscientious representative. The little games attempted to be perpetrated m expending an undue proportion of the rate 3at the north end of the town, the appropriation of streets, &c, were not to be thrust down the throat of Cr Griffiths, therefore it is not convenient that he should be or continue a member. Of course, the leader m the Company's paper was not inspired by Cr Dodson. who is a large shareholder and director, and a prominent member. That virtuous paper could not descend to that, neither was the article called forth by Cr Griffiths maintaining that the Express was a better medium for the printing and advertising. Nor will the Mayor hardly refuse (at his own cost) to take a legal opinion— as directed by the Times— to ascertain the legality of the question ; although he is also a prominent shareholder and director. It is also a remarkable fact, by the way, that the Times was not directed to furnish a leader about pilfering the public streets of the Borough, by which the ratepayers suffer. Rumour says that not only has the clique decided on ousting Cr Griffiths, but they have already selected a person to put m his place — another prominent member— but as this requires the votes of the East Ward ratepayers (who . are not easily gulled), it will be rather difficult as he is not ousted yet. — I am, &c, An East Waed Ratepayer.
