Tuesday, 740 p.m. The Nomination for the representation of the Franklin district m the Assembly took place to-day. The candidates were Messrs Goodfellow, Woodward, May, Dargaville, and Troupe. The show of hands was m favour of Goodfellow. The Star's London correspondent states that the system of free past ages has resulted m the shipment of an inferior class of immigrants, and instances the passengers by the Doi'ette, which left on January 21st for Auckland with 340 immigrants. It states that with the exception of the single won>en, they are much below the average. The Auckland Shipping Company's Waikato, for the Auckland trade, has been launched. She is a sister vessel to the Rakaia. Tuesday, 5*30 p.m. The schooner Marion Renny has arrived from Lovuka, Fiji. She states that the steamer MacGregor has been floated. H.M.S. Pearl tried to get her off for several days, but all the strongest ways broke and she was compelled to desist ; meanwhile 200 tons of sugar and a large quantity of coal were thrown overboard, there being no means of landing them, and the steamer floated off on the 7th instant without assistance, the Pearl having' gone to Levuka. The MacGregor was taken to a safe anchorage m Galoa Bay. Sho has a bole 12 feet by 3 feet m one of the forward compartments, which is full of water, but is otherwise uninjured. She will be repaired as well as circumstances will permit, 'tmd then taken to Sydney and docked. ■ The proposed annexation of Fiji was negatived by the King and the leading chiefs assembled at Bau. There will b« fresh elections. Monday, 5.30 p.m. The Governor arrived yesterday m his yacht which was towed from Eangitoto by the steamer Rowena. Saturday, 7.35 p.m. Arrived, the Hilton Castle from London after a passage of 1 1 2 clays, and bringing two passengers. Captain Holman of the Amazi left money to settle the costs of the late action before his sudden departure.
