GENTLEMEN BY ACT OF PARLIAMENT.
Sfß, — Having been present m the Picton Police Court recently, I was very much astonished to hear the harangue of one of the Gentlemen by Act of Parliament, before the Court on that occasion ; but whether to be most surprised at the insinuations of the hired Gentlemen by Act of Parliament or the supineness of the presiding Magistrate m permitting such base and groundless (so far as I could see) insinuations against respectable individuals I could not decide. It is to be hoped however for the respectability of our minor courts of Justice that such scenes are not of frequent occurrence, and that our presiding Magistrates will see the necessity of putting down with a strong hand such ungentlemanly conduct m their Courts, as there is a limit even to the licensed of Gentlemen by Act of Parliament, but who have no other right to be either called or treated as gentlemen. — I am, &c., Censor. Picton, 17th March, 1873.
