Wellington, Dec. 23. The Emigrant and Colonist Aid Corporation have accepted the modification of Colonel Fielding’s agreement offered by the Provincial Government. News has been received that the ship Agamemnon, seven months out from London, after leaving Kio, where she put in for new masts, had to put into Table Bay on the 7th September, to repair a leak, and was likely to be detained there three or four months. Dunedin, Dec. 23. Mr Williams, Baptist Minister, has died from the effects of tha coach accident on Friday. The Horticultural Show was opened by the Governor to-day. The Governor’s reception in Dunedin was a great success. Triumphal arches were erected ; the Volunteers turned out and lined the principal streets ; the trades and societies walked in procession ; the children of the various schools met on the grounds of Fern Hill house and sang the National Anthem. An address was presented by the Mayor, Mr Fish, on behalf of the community and the different public bodies. Dec. 24.—The heat here is most fearfully oppressive. Taranaki, Dec. 22.
