PUBLIC MEETING AT THE FERRY
A well attended meeting was held at the Ferry Hotel on Tuesday week for the purpose of appointing a committee for the proposed building for public pur] >oses at Marlborough Town. Mr R. Phillips occupied’"‘thb'’cliair, "and opened the meeting with, a short address on the many advantages that would be derived from a build ing of this kind, and urged on the meeting the necessity of at once appointing a building commitee, so that as little delay as possible should occur in the necessary arrangements for its erection. A letter was received from Mr George Dodson, in which he expressed his regret that owing to indisposition he was compelled to absent himself from the meeting. He also congratulated the district on the generous amount already subscribed towards the building, which he was sure would be a great boon to them all. After some discussion the following gentlemen were appointed as the committee : Messrs Phillips, Dodson, Hathaway, Busch, and James Gane. Such committee to become trustees of the building when erected. Mr Dickens said he was authorized to state for the information of the meeting that the amount of subscriptions received up to date was £22 11s and promised £3O. This sum, together with the Government grant of £3O, would make a total of £B2 11s. But still this was not sufficient for the object they had in view, and he had no doubt that those persons who bad not yet subscribed would do so most willingly when asked. He concluded by proposing a vote of thanks io their friends in Blenheim who had so liberally assisted them. The motion was carried unanimously. It was arranged that the Committee should meet on Monday the 18th June, when a plan and estimate of the cost of the building would be laid before them for their approval. A. vote of thanks to the chairman concluded ths meeting.
