Resident Magistrate's Court.

BLENHEIM, MONDAY, MAY 22nd, 1871. (Before S. L. Muller, Esq., R.M.) Richard Ki&man was brought up on an information laid by Mr A. Maclaine, for stealing firewood at Wairau Valley. In consequence of the prosecutor being late in arrival, the case was adjourned till Thursday, when the prisoner was fined £l, with £5 13s 6d costs. NESBITT V. KIERNAN. A claim of £5 4s for board and refreshment. Claim admitted. Judgment for whole amount, with £2 10s Sd costs. NESBITT V. J. MARSHALL. Claim for £9 7s for board, &c. Defendant did not appear. Judgment for claim, with £3 10s 8d costs. NESBITT V. W. HAINES. Claim for £l4 ss, admitted. Judgment for sum claimed, with £4 2s Sd costs. WRIGLEY V. MAIN. Claim for £2 12s for boots supplied. Defendant alleged that the amount was 6s in excess. Judgment for sum claimed, with 13s costs. BURNS V. LEWIS. Claim for £4 6s 6d, for one month’s wages for cutting firewood. Defendant urged that plaintiff only cut 2 k cords per week during the time, whereas he should cut 2 cords a day, consequently he had told him to knock off. Judgifient for £2 6s 6d, with £2 5s costs. SPRING CREEK SCHOOL COMMITTEE V. CHEESEMAN. This was an action brought in order to recover the possession of the school premises at Spring Creek from the defendant, who had been appointed master by a former Committee, but had received notice that his services were no longer required. On the termination, his wife was engaged, with the understanding that three months’ notice should terminate her engagement, and such notice was duly given. Mrs Cheeseman also wrote a letter confirming the arrangement. In due course a new master waa engaged, but defendant refused to give up po *- session. After a long and patient hearing of the witnesses, with Mr Pitt for the plaintiff and Mr Nelson for the defence, the Bench ordered defendant to give up possession on the 29th May, and to pay 27s costs and the legal expenses of the plaintiffs. /
