“MINIM” V. THE EXPRESS.

Sik, —I have read with much regret several letters which have lately appeared in the News, signed “ Minim ” ; and, as one member at least of that Society of which he appears as champion, T wish, if only out of justice to yourself, to ex- - press my dissent with the tone of the letter in \ question. I take “Minim” to be a highly \ valued and zealous member of the Philharmonic

Society, but in this matter think his zeal has got the better of his judgment. Feeling, as he no doubt did, that the paragraph—“ The Value of a Vote ” —which appeared in your paper was calculated to injure the prospects of the Society with regard to their use of the hall (which is decidedly the only one in Blenheim adapted for their purposes), I think him quite right in arguing the point. For after all,-even allowing that the Northern Assurance Company reduced their risk on account of the Philharmonic Society using the hall, other Companies are easily to be found who would take it. This lie might have advanced, and there have ceased. 1 would ask “Alinim,” has not the Editor of the Express, both in his public and private capacity, shown his desire to promote the interests of the Philharmonic Society from its very commencement ? Why, then, should he impute other motives than the natural desire every newspaper proprietor has of giving his subscribers information concerning any local topic of interest ? I think the style of “ Minim’s ” letters, to say the least, ungrateful as against one who has done much for the Society, and calculated to do harm to the very body he is trying to protect. j' I am, &c.,
