MAIL IRREGULARITIES.

To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. Sir, — May I ask through your columns the cause of the continued irregularity in the despatch of our Mails. For a long time past this has been obvious to every one interested in the least degree; but the despatch of the Northern Mail, on Wednesday night last, after having been advertised for nearly a week previously to close on the 13th, certainly astonishes me, and must be a cause of very great inconvenience, if not loss, toalarge portion of our community Why could not our Post Office have been advised by wire of the premature arrival of the Airedale in Wellington, and thus afforded the public at least a few hours’ notice of that vessel leaving Picton, especially as by official notification the mail was not to close for 48 hours after, even in Blenheim. I do not blame the officials here unheard ; in fact, I have ever found them careful and obliging, but the fault must lie somewhere ; and when the present state of affairs is altered, we shall find that we shall then begin to enjoy similar privileges to other Provinces, for which, nevertheless, we have had, and are now paying a heavy taxation.—l am, &c., J. Kissling.
