SPORTS AND PASTIMES.

FOOTBALL. Now that the war is over an effort is being' made to revive football in the Eastern Districts. Many prominent players who mostly joined the colors at the outbreak of hostilities have paid the supreme sacrifice, while many others have suffered injuries that will preclude them from again taking part as playing members in the activities of their old clubs. Play this year will have, to bo confined practically to second and third grade matches, but this is no reason whv the older members of the various’ clubs should not take as' keen an interest in the pastime as in former years. The second grade players of to-day are the ones that fill the gaps pi the first fifteens of to-morrow. An interesting record has been compiled of the names of the players from the Eastern Districts who responded to the call of King and Country in the Great War. The Gore Albion Chib stands at the head of the list, 75 of its players having taken up arms, but the Pioneers come a dose second with a total of 73. Mataura, next on the list, gave 33 players, the Hibernian Club 22, Wyndham IG, while Seaward Downs shows the creditable total of 13. The figures speak for themselves, and, considering the subscription list* of the various clubs, present a record it would bo hard to beat. ALBION CLUE* The annual meeting of _ the Albion Club was held last evening in the -National -Club rooms, a fair number attending. The President (Mr F. Wallis) referred to the military records of the eastern District Clubs, and the prospects for the coming season. It was decided to “set the ball rolling,'’ and the following officers .were elected: Patrons, Mr A. Martin (Mayor-elect), and Mr F. Wallis, sear.; president, Mr Hugh Mac Gibbon; vicepresidents, Messrs D. Macara, Ucv. F. do Lisle, J. D. Forbes, J. AlcCorkiudalo, T. L. Pillar, J. P. Thompson, Blair, Jones, Chatterton and Mftchcll; treasurer, Mr Blair; delegates to Sub-Union, L’cv. do Lisle and J. McCovkindalc. The subscription fee was fixed at 2s Gd for members over 18 and Is Gd for those under 18. In taking the chair the new President (Mr 11. Mac Gibbon) referred to the long and honorable connection with the club of the retiring President (Mi' F. Wallis, Gore). Mr Wallis hud been president of the club practically since its inception, and the manner in which ■*j had looked after the interests of the mims was deserving of the highest praise. (Applause).
